Canadian Biojet Fuel Laboratories Inc. (CBFL) is a wholly owned Canadian organization dedicated to decarbonizing aviation—one of the world’s hardest‑to‑abate sectors.


CBFL’s role is execution.

  

We exist to:

  • Engineer and scale fully synthetic sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)
  • Advance      projects rapidly from lab → pilot → demonstration → commercial deployment
  • Deliver deployable solutions that reduce carbon intensity today—not decades from now.

CBFL focuses on two proven, scalable technology pathways:


  • Biomass‑to‑Jet (Fischer–Tropsch)


Advancing the conversion of sustainable biomass into drop‑in aviation fuel.


  • Mixed Alcohols‑to‑Jet


Advancing synthetic fuel production from alcohol intermediates.


These pathways enable fully synthetic, infrastructure‑compatible aviation fuels with measurable carbon reductions.

CBFL advances a circular carbon economy by converting biomass, alcohols, biogenic CO₂, and clean hydrogen into drop‑in, fully synthetic aviation fuel.

  • Circular carbon systems are essential if atmospheric CO₂ is to return toward 350 ppm


  • Aviation cannot electrify at scale - sustainable liquid fuels are therefore essential

CBFL supports Canada’s hydrogen economy by using hydrogen as an enabling intermediate rather than a final aviation fuel.


By converting hydrogen directly into liquid SAF, CBFL:


  • Creates immediate industrial hydrogen demand


  • Avoids stranded hydrogen infrastructure


  • Maximizes climate impact per kilogram of hydrogen


Preserves compatibility with existing aviation infrastructure
